Rebar Components Export

Iron is one of the most abundant elements on earth. It is estimated that there is dense molten iron at the center of the earth. It is thought by experts that this dense iron mass affects the magnetic field formation. Iron metal is obtained from iron ores. It is rarely found in nature as an element. To obtain iron as a metal, other impurities in the ore must be removed by chemical reduction. Iron constitutes 95% of the metals produced in the world by weight.

Iron used in construction is actually a type of steel. When the rebar is heated up to 1420-1470 0C with carbon, it becomes a liquid melt. This melt is actually an alloy containing 96.5% iron and 3.5% carbon. This state of steel is called cast iron or pig. The product obtained in this way is put on the market by going through different processes according to its intended use.

Turkey is one of the world's largest rebar exporters. Turkey, Spain and Ukraine are ranked as the leading countries in rebar export. According to Worldsteel (World Steel Association) data, Turkey is the world's largest rebar exporter. Our country is also one of the countries that have a say in this sector as the 7th largest steel producer.

Rebar Usage Areas

While the foundation beam forms reinforced concrete elements such as columns, beams, slabs, curtains and rafts, the concrete meets the compressive stresses and the rebar meets the tensile stresses. In order to increase the tensile strength of the rebars, notches are made on the edges. Notched irons made in this way are called ribbed rebar. In our country, rebar is available in the market between 8 and 60 mm in diameter and 12 m in length. Iron traders generally make vineyards as 2000 -2500 kg.

Ribbed rebar has high strength, it is used in reinforced concrete structures with high weldability and folding properties. Ribbed rebar is definitely used in structures that require special designs such as skyscrapers, dams, subways, and highways. Due to its low price and high strength additives, ribbed rebar is one of the largest components of structures.

Ribbed Rebar

What is rebar? How was it started to be used? Ribbed rebars serve as skeletons in reinforced concrete elements. Reinforced concrete was formed by the movement of concrete and iron together, as a whole. It cannot meet the tensile forces formed in the concrete alone. Iron rods must be placed in the concrete to meet the tensile forces.

The idea of putting reinforcement in concrete in order to meet the tensile forces and prevent cracks emerged in 1849. Until the 1900s, only iron, not steel rods, was put into the concrete. Today, although steel bars are placed in reinforced concrete, the words "iron", "blacksmith" are widely used.

Construction steel with a flat surface is called flat construction iron, construction steel with a protruding surface is called ribbed construction iron, and construction steel with a recessed surface is called profiled construction iron.

The protrusions on the ribbed rebar increase the adherence between concrete and steel. The protrusions called ribs help to increase the adherence as the force applied to the iron surface increases.

Instead of the flat rebar, which was widely used until the 1999 earthquake, the use of ribbed iron increased in the following years. Although ribbed irons are more economical than flat irons, they are more efficient due to the effects they provide when calculated for a long time. Classification of Rebar

A) According to the amount of carbon it contains:

Low carbon steels (it is ductile), high carbon steels (brittle)

B) According to the smallest yield strength:

The steel with the smallest yield strength of 220 N/mm2 is called S220. The steel with the smallest yield strength of 420 N/mm2 is called S420, B420B, B420C. Steel with the smallest yield strength of 500 N/mm2 is called B500A, B500B, B500C.

C) According to the surface properties:

Flat steel S220, ribbed construction steel S420, B420B, B500C, profiled construction steel B 500 A.
