What is Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG)?

optical fibers; They are flexible, light and transparent structures made of glass or plastic materials and produced in a slightly thicker diameter than a human hair. The structure of a particular region of glass fibers (typically a few millimeters) is altered by UV-rays, creating a periodic grid pattern in the fiber core. This grid structure is called fiber Bragg grid.

FBG Sensor Technology: Fiber Bragg gratings reflect back a certain wavelength (central wavelength) of incoming light. The parameter to be measured changes the size of the fiber, causing the grating gap to narrow and widen. As the grating period changes, the wavelength of the reflected light changes. It is possible to measure various physical and/or chemical parameters by detecting changes in wavelength. With FBG sensors, multiple effects can be measured simultaneously on the same fiber.
